La Flute de Pan was written at the request of the playwright Gabriel Mourey as incidental music to his play Psych, and was first performed in paris on 1 December 1913. Though this short masterpiece reflects the delightful lines of mourey, it is also a lament, for pan will play no more; through his syrinx.
